"I put a lot of thought into preparing for this mix and extremely little thought into actually making it. This mix has a lot of personal resonance for me because not only was Jason one of the first recurring characters I picked out from clubbing in NYC in the late 00s and early 10s, but he’s also become a bizarrely dear and incredibly supportive friend in the past several years. Jason understands things about dance music that few people in my immediate vicinity seem to and that’s because he’s been rigorously applying himself to its study for at least the past decade…I think we’re neck and neck in terms of how long we’ve both been dance heads. Anyway, despite collecting records for the better part of the past decade, I only started getting them to do what I wanted to in the past year or so…a development that nicely paralleled my finally taking my writing seriously following the publication of my Green Sky comic and personal site focusing on music and culture. I decided to finally get serious about DJ’ing sometime between the ages of 32 and 33, when most of the people I went to school with are moving onto their second child. I never seem to play out—though back when I was a shit DJ, hoo doggie, I couldn’t keep the gigs away!—so that just means I’m hiding in my Bushwick apartment, pretending there’s no outside and just mixing and writing and doing things to stay alive. It’s a glamorous life, this."
