The WNBA Has Entered the Chat!

The WNBA is suddenly dealing with a very unusual controversy surrounding the definition of who is eligible to play in the league. Former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have both announced plans to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft, saying they identify as women and arguing that the league's current eligibility language leaves the door open for their participation. The WNBA has since pushed back, saying there are currently no immediate eligibility issues and condemning what it describes as bad-faith efforts to exploit the issue.
