Net Cast

On rare occasions when studying the book of Psalms, we are able to learn the Bible's backstory to the passage that we are reading. David writes these songs based on real events in his life. When Absalom was trying to kill his father David, while he fled from Jerusalem for his life, he shows us how to put our trust in the LORD through prayer, protection, and preservation. Join us as we explore II Samuel 15-18 in view of Psalm 3.

David provides us with a Messianic psalm that point to the reign of Jesus on His throne and over a spiritual kingdom that we now know as His church. Those who refuse to make Jesus Lord of their life will experience the wrath of God, while those that take refuge in Him will find great spiritual blessings. While the world continues to fight against God, His Son and the Holy Spirit, we find sweet surrender to Him that leads to everlasting life.

James is going to say the words, "Come now..." and teach two profound lessons to his Christian audience about how to endure the persecution and mistreatment that they were facing during this period of time in their faith. He will close with the coming of the Lord Jesus being imminent. For the Christian, the Lord's return is a day of rejoicing as He will punish the enemies of the cross and take His brethren home. For those who are living in sin on the day of His coming, it will be a day of wrath and righteous judgment. The lesson to take with us is that we must be saved and be ready for that day to come.

How powerful is the tongue? So strong that James warns early Christians to refrain from having everyone become teachers so that they will not face a stricter judgment. The tongue is such a small part of the body but it cannot be tamed by anyone. The best that we can hope to do is to direct our speech to bless and not curse. Listen and learn why the tongue is a world of iniquity if we choose not to use this member of our body to the glory of God.

Many people fail to understand the relationship between faith and works in the religious world around us. The spectrum of beliefs ranges so drastically on this subject that unity of mind would seem impossible. James is going to settle the issue once and for all. We are going to explore this passage in great detail and we invite you to listen and study along.
