Walt Disney opened Disneyland with a policy prohibiting alcohol sales and consumption, so when Walt was looking to open a second park, he wanted to enforce those same rules. When being approached to renovate and create a new park in St. Louis, Disney planned to build something special and take the city in a family friendly direction, but that wasn't to be as the August Busch Jr., the biggest beer mogul in the world and a mover and shaker in St. Louis, would have things to say about Disney's "no alcohol" policy.

Whether your see it or not, Disney is mining it's fans for data to make sure they are creating content that suits their fans. We may not agree with their methods of experimentation or deny to fill out a survey, but let us assure you that they see their fans as serious data and it was very previlent at the D23 Expo!

Robert Ripley opened up the world to the strange and unusual and that tradition continued throughout the 20th century including at the Disneyland theme park when Rolly Crump planned the Museum of the Weird, a fictional museum about strange artifacts from around the globe, but could it be possible that instead of asking ourselves the "what if" we should be asking "Is the story worth the loss?"

As Epcot was evolving during it's first few years in the 1980s, plans were proposed left and right for new attractions and pavilions. One of those pavilions, the Soviet Union, came out just as the planned country was falling apart and left in an economic collapse, and I know this was about money to some degree, but could we have also lost a Russian pavilion to feelings of fear through decades of propaganda and paranoia? This episode takes a look at why sometimes culture is overlooked because of politics and why we should focus less on politics and more on the human story.
