In May of 1990, Jim Henson suddenly passed away at the age of 53. The timing could have not been worse as he was so young and was working on so many creations while planning to merge with the Walt Disney Company in order to create more under their banner. That merger also gave Disney the right to create an entire Muppet "land" at it's newest theme park at the time, the Disney-MGM Studios. The death and aftermath of the Muppet Studios is actually a common tale. Death creates problems and ripple effects that impact all of those around it, not just the person who has passed on. In this episode we discuss how death impacts family and companies, and what happened to Jim Henson's creations, as well as what might be a return to an old idea.

Angie and Josh went back and forth for weeks talking about Utopian societies at home and wanted to apply the idea to the Disney parks. Disney's Animal Kingdom is one of the most beautiful and detailed theme parks Disney has ever put together so I always wondered why it's first "land" you walk through, The Oasis, was so, for lack of a better term, generic. Then I discovered that the Imagineering team had many other plans for the entrance to this park. One of the favorites among it's team and lead designer was called Genesis Gardens, a Garden of Eden type land, and you'd enter that land through an enormous Noah's Ark. This episode sparks the conversation about why something with a biblical origin would be too controversial for a Disney theme park. The controversy surround religion is something we've grown used to, but why is it so controversial?

Recently the Disney parks launched new costumes for Mulan, Pocahontas, and Jasmine (oh and Aladdin) and their costumes are to represent a more culturally correct representation of these characters from around the globe. Josh and Angie discuss if they truly are being culturally diverse, if they still uphold the integrity of the characters, and if we should expect more on the way or if this is just an experiment.
