Title: Overcoming My Dyslexia By Realising It HAD To Happen

Tricia will share her story :

"I was held back once and almost twice. Diagnosed in second grade. I thought ‘I was stupid, couldn’t do anything right and everyone hated me.’ Never saw any gifts of dyslexia.   Retrained my brain to learn at 38. I thought all was going to go my way- I could learn but one problem. I was still unsure and insecure. Discovered- the trauma due to abandonment by teachers and those I looked up to to help me. I had anger/shame, hatred/grief that needed to be addressed. I did prayer, yoga, affirmations and meditation daily! I can learn, forgiven myself and know it All Had To Happen."

  • "Different And Highly Valuable - The Autism Spectrum"

Delighted to announce the next guest 🙌

    Beatrice Freeman

Story Title : "Different And Highly Valuable - The Autism Spectrum"

Beatrice's shares her own experience and own conclusions and advice how to work with us. The autism spectrum hasn't got a clearly defined picture; you could say the the common denominator is that there isn't a common denominator. This is because all of us have done a different amount of work to overcome the challenges, with a different rate of success, and started at a different point, with with different sensitivity and intelligence.  You could say that the autism spectrum is characterised by higher than average IQ and higher than average sensitivity, which makes fitting in extremely difficult. WHich is extremely sad, because we have so much to give but it seems that people are afraid to let us in. I would lke to explain what the world looks like from our perspective and which traits are highly valuable to any employer. I want to encourage everyone to learn to identify what triggers problems (and then in our minds grows to unsurpassable obstacles and panic) - and how easy it is to avoid them. It really is down just to a few things and the rewards of tapping into what we offer are immense. We are rarely welcome and the fact of being welcome makes us happier than you think. Loyalty is one of the features, once we find something that actually works for us, we want to keep it, we want to give to you. It's very easy yet shrouded in a veil of mystery.   We are not "ticking bombs" because of the high IQ and high sensitivity, we are not bombs at all, we just want to give and to belong.

Beatrice's story is truly incredible and one not to miss.

Delighted to announce the next guest 🙌

Mark Stoddart Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland.

Story Title : My life with Dyslexia

Mark Stoddart is an Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland.

For the past 30+ years he has been designing & selling, what you would call, functional art: Bronze Sculptures converted into coffee & dining tables for use indoors & outdoors. he not only sell's within the UK, he also ship's his designs to clients over the world. Some of my clients are very well known i.e. The man who walked on the moon / King of Saudi Arabia / Pop Stars / Scottish Parliament: to name but a few.  Another one his projects is dealing in property. Despite all the things that he has done he still doesn't feel like he has ticked the “Achieved” box. On a one occasion he had this conversation with Sir Jackie Stewart, he said, he knows what I am talking about & went on to say: “If we had we would not keep doing what we do”. – How true -.

  • How Neurodiverse children have taught me so much.

Delighted to announce the next guest 🙌

Liz ( Day ) Loly -  How Neurodiverse children have taught me so much.

As a trainee PE teacher, Liz became interested in dyspraxia and chose to do an assignment about what it is, the effects of it and how to help a child overcome some of the challenges. Then in her first teaching job, she taught a dyslexic boy who she thought was so inspiring and positive in the way he coped with his difficulties.   However, on the first parents evening when Liz said this to his parents, they explained that he regularly cried because he thought he was stupid.  This developed a passion for ensuring that people with dyslexia and other nuerodiversities knew their strengths rather than being held back by the challenges.   Liz then went on to have her own delightfully dyslexic son who amazes her and inspires her all the time with his different way of thinking and empathy.
