Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nevada Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd.
Nevada's doing its thing today: three states in one. Southern Nevada woke up to a balmy 40 degrees. Northern Nevada? A frosty 22. And Eastern Nevada? A downright brutal 13 degrees. That's a 27-degree spread before breakfast.
Step outside in Las Vegas right now and you'll feel spring knocking. Clear skies, light breeze. And you're cruising to 67 degrees by 4 PM. Perfect day for a hike without the heavy jacket.
Head north to Reno and it's a different story. You woke up to 22 degrees with wind chills near 18 around 7 AM. That's the kind of cold that makes your car seat feel like a block of ice. But hang tight — you'll hit 49 degrees by 4 PM. Mostly sunny, winds shifting west around 1 PM.
Push east to Ely and you got the short end of the stick this morning. Thirteen degrees at sunrise. Light winds, partly sunny skies. And a high of 45 degrees by 3 PM. Not terrible, but you're definitely bundling up for that morning coffee run.
Tonight, Southern Nevada stays mild at 44 degrees. Northern Nevada drops to 26. Eastern Nevada? Twenty degrees. Dress warmly if you're heading out late.
Looking at the week ahead. Southern Nevada stays dry and warms up big time — 83 degrees by Saturday. Northern and Eastern Nevada? Tuesday brings rain, likely soaking you with a 60 percent chance. Snow levels drop to 6,000 feet by Tuesday night, so mountain passes could see 2 to 4 inches. By Friday, everyone's back in the 60s and 70s.
