Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz.
February is going out like a lion. If that lion decided to sunbathe instead of roar. A massive ridge of high pressure is parked over Nevada. and it's cranking up the heat like we skipped straight to spring break.
In the next 24 hours. Southern Nevada? You're hitting 84 degrees this afternoon. That's shorts and sunglasses weather. Northern Nevada climbs to 69 — still plenty warm for late February. Even Eastern Nevada, waking up to a crisp 33 degrees this morning, shoots up to 59 by mid-afternoon. That's a 26-degree swing before lunch.
The north gets a little twist today. A weak weather system is sneaking along the Oregon border, bringing a slight chance of showers to Northern Nevada between 7 A.M. and noon. We're talking light stuff — maybe a tenth of an inch if you see anything at all. Eastern Nevada gets a better shot at rain between 10 A.M. and 2 P.M., with about a coin flip on whether you'll need an umbrella. Snow levels stay way up at 8,000 feet, so this is all rain in the valleys.
Tonight stays mild statewide. Southern Nevada drops to 58 degrees. Northern Nevada falls to 43. Eastern Nevada settles at 38, with that light rain lingering through 10 P.M. Before it finally clears out.
Sunday cranks the heat even higher. Southern Nevada peaks at 86 degrees — we're talking record-flirting territory. Northern Nevada reaches 63 under mostly cloudy skies. Eastern Nevada climbs to 63 as well, but rain chances return after mid-morning with a 40 percent shot at light showers.
Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Monday flips the script. Cooler air moves in with widespread rain, especially in the north and east. Tuesday brings a brief break, then another storm system arrives Wednesday and Thursday. Snow levels drop to valley floors by Wednesday night, so the mountains could see real accumulation mid-week.
Soak up this warmth while you've got it. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
