Never Far from Home

Terri Potter is an absolute champion. She is a friend of a friend who let me crash in the guest bedroom for an evening, and in the midst of that, I had to check the box of live interview in New Hampshire. Mike Cochran and I go back and forth in what is the second edition of the "State of Hockey Address". There is the storytelling, mostly from the trip, and from the guests I have had on. And there is some hockey talk on the back half as well, as we chat about the expansion draft and the first couple days of free agency. Ruby Goldner came on, and the conversation was a little bit looser than the normal timeline talk. We definitely got into some of that, but also, the discussion led to opinions on some of the darker sides of figure skating and hockey. Alas, our little world is not perfect. Lindsey Migliore got involved with the community of the rink through her wife, and now plays as much hockey as she can. We were able to talk about her introduction to the game, and how and why she has since fallen in love with the sport. We also talk a lot about what she does for work, as a doctor. She is involved in the E-sports world, and is trying to bring light to others in her field about video-gaming and how it can effect players outside of it. Deron Barton grew up in the game of hockey, and does not remember a time when it was not a passion of his. We talk about some of his favorite youth memories, some of the players he was able to look up to, and how his career progressed. He ended up getting into coaching pretty quickly after his playing career wrapped up, and we speak about that transition. Pete Bissell grew up playing a variation of pond and ice hockey. He fell in love with the game and played for a few years through his childhood. Different reasons pulled him away from the game for a number of years, but as is so often the case, it pulled him back in. He tells tales about his time away from the sport, and how it was able to get him back involved. From the time he started up again, he has not stepped away, and has no plans to do so. He also is able to highlight what Bissell Brothers Brewing is doing for the local hockey community.

Terrence Wallin grew up in hockey. He does not remember a time that he wasn't playing. We are able to dive into his career, from his youth days, through his time at UMass - Lowell, and eventually we touch on his climb from the SPHL all the way to the AHL. Terrence has faced adversity at almost every level, but has pushed through. Enjoy his tales of triumph, and how some sage advice from a baseball player helped him in hockey.

Casey Sprogis got his start young in the hockey world. He fell in love with the game right away, and knew he wanted to stay involved in some capacity as he grew up. Mission Accomplished. We sit down and tell stories from his youth days, through his one year of juniors, and then his move to Maine. Casey is it, he IS the Beauty Unis guy I get to talk about on each show, and finally, we get to highlight him, and his stories. Matt Voity picked up hockey a little later than most, but fell in love with the game right away. He realized quickly that he wanted to take the game as far as it would let him, and he pursued dreams of playing pro. While those did not come to fruition, he has been able to make a living staying within the game in different coaching roles. He shares stories from his hockey beginnings, all the way through his current status. Enjoy!
