Never Picked

Andrew Webster describes his rural upbringing in a way that would please Wendell Berry. Tragically, much of this rural infrastructure and alternative way of being has been lost.

This is in response to my first listener question, which is about why men don’t tend to read, and what to do about it. Recorded along the shoreline of Lake Superior.

Perhaps controversial and troubling to some, but really, does it need to be?

A passion for living locally reawakened at Canosia Grove Farm. My non-neuro-typical brain demanded an outing, and the out-of-town farmers graciously accommodated me. Beautiful! Also, what it looks like to pursue passions, interests, and gifts, without waiting to be chosen.

Great conversation. Towards the end you’ll hear me snapping my fingers while getting all excited about the topic. Perhaps I’ll wear gloves next time!

Between turns in his new sauna, Adam Swanson talks about his time in Antarctica and what it’s like to sauna at the South Pole. Apologies for some sound issues here. Shouldn’t happen again.

Woke up jazzed after a fantastic visit with artist Adam Swanson. I was the first guest in his new sauna, and wanted to offer a few thoughts as a prelude to our recording. Reconnecting with him reawakened me in some ways.

Bringing yesterday’s conversation to a close (part 2, if you will). This one’s just me talking about the impact of two crazy relevant books: Station Eleven and Culture Care.

Kicking off the podcast with best-selling author, Leif Enger.
