It is the will of God that our faith continues to deepen throughout our entire faith-journey. Faith begins with our salvation, but it cannot terminate there. Faith is a spiritual muscle that must be stretched and exercised if it is to grow. Few people in the bible reveal a better response to these faith-stretching seasons better than Abraham. As God tested Abraham’s faith, we are empowered and instructed to recognize the dynamics of what happens inside of us as God tests our own faith. How Abraham responded to the alarming plans of God proves him as a fit father to faith.

Many challenges face the 21st Century father. He is called to provide through hard work and financial earning. He is called to sacrificially love his wife if he is married. Christian fathers are expected to serve God as those who have been saved by grace and empowered by Holy Spirit. There are a host of other smaller responsibilities that constantly cycle in and out of a man’s daily life. Many men are weary, worn and discouraged. Sometimes, if we are honest, our children get only what is left over after all the other withdrawals on us are complete. This message sounds an awakening alarm for fathers to reengage their hearts with their children and grandchildren as concerns the Kingdom of God. Right underneath our call to love our wives is our call to love and invest in our children. This has always been the design of God and, when fathers will prioritize this privilege from Heaven, glorious things are able to be passed from one generation to the next.

"Some may find it interesting that much of the New Testament’s teaching about biblical sexuality came from two men who were not married. Obviously, Jesus never had a wife. Paul may have never been married but, at the very least, we know that he was single when his apostolic ministry was taking place. What did this amazing apostle have to say about sex? In this message, we find a strong pushback against the anything-goes mindset concerning human sexuality. Paul connects our views on sex with the genuineness of our salvation. Far from being a side issue, biblical sexuality is addressed frequently in scripture, and the Church must remain informed, vocal and committed to the heart of God concerning our views and practices in the realm of human sexuality. Paul seizes our attention in 1 Corinthians 6:9-18.”

There is one God-blessed outlet for human sexuality, and there are countless other outlets that people, even Christians, choose which lead to heartbreak, sin and personal loss. Jesus calls His followers to live out well-seasoned and brightly shining lives. We are not to hide from the world. Christians do not live in retreat or recluse. The goal of the Gospel points upward in worship and outward in mission. In these verses from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us who we are in Him, and what He has fully accomplished for us. He exposes the weakness of trusting in moral religion. Jesus declares that He has fulfilled all that the Law demands so that we are free to live motivated by trust and love rather than fear and striving. He is calling us to put Him on full and public display as we live out our lives in a world that does not know Him. Religion demands that we behave. Jesus demands that we believe. Between these two demands, eternity hangs in the balance for us.

"It is an awesome sight to behold when we encounter those people who know exactly who they are in the Kingdom. God does not merely impart forgiveness through the Gospel of Jesus, God imparts our identity to us. His delight is to introduce us to the person He has destined us to be before the foundation of the world. When this discovery finds us and we embrace it, we become people who are able to bring Him glory with our lives. Because of this, the enemy fights viciously to assign us a different identity, a lesser one. This message takes us through a handful of examples of people in the bible who were fought in the discovery of their God-given identities. The very first humans stepped away from whom God said that they were. Every single human since then has to be restored to the identity which God has chosen for them. This includes you. God knows who you are meant to be. Receive motivation and hope that you can begin to be that person today.”

So many believers live according to what describes them, but not what defines them. We can be described by our gender, age, ethnicity or socio-economic class. It is not that these things are untrue, it is just that they are not all-true. These things do not define us. Others may be qualified to describe who we are, but only God defines who we are. The story of Jacob is one of lost identity, false identity and then restored identity. God will go to great lengths to bring us into the understanding of who He says we are. This is attached to our destiny and purpose in life. If we live by the descriptions assigned to us by people, we will live beneath the full identity that God has prepared for us from before the foundation of the world. To bring us into this reality, sometimes god must do with us what He did with Jacob: bless us with a beautiful body-slam. Learn what it means to wrestle with God in order to step into your identity.
