As God is calling us to live with our fixation upon His Son, Jesus, we must recognize that nearly everything in our culture and in our own flesh opposes this calling from Him. Is it possible for the Christian to have the best of both the kingdom of God and the kingdom of this age? Can we live in true abandonment to God and still funnel our time, energies and resources into getting the best out of this world? King Solomon offers counsel on these matters, and calls us to have a mind continually fixated on God while we remain aware of that moment where we stand before Him to receive a verdict concerning the final value of our lives. No matter how we began this journey, are we being intentional about how we will finish? Do we have a Jesus-centered mind?

Few places in scripture reveal the father-heart of the Apostle Paul more so than the verses in this passage in Philippians. Though Paul could operate in some of the most stunning power from the Holy Spirit, he also understood the importance of nurturing those whom he spiritually fathered. From his words in Philippians 1:3-11, we learn the deep value of intentionally encouraging others in the walks with God. Paul tells the Philippians that they brought him joy. He let them know that he was praying for them. He reinforced that their hope in Jesus must remain strong as they look for deep growth in the love of God toward each other. Before he finishes his empowering words here, Paul reminds them all that the return of Jesus must remain at the forefront of their thinking. The aroma Paul releases in this encouraging passage is the fragrance of the Kingdom. May we all breathe it in deeply.

Description:

As we read the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Christians in Philippi, it is difficult to picture him writing from a Roman prison. Paul, incarcerated for the crime of being an unapologetic missionary, is reaching out to the first church he established on the continent of Europe. From his opening words, we are able to sense flowing from the Apostle’s heart, the strong love, confident hope and earnest desire to minister to these believers. We can learn much about the relationship between leaders and followers from Paul’s opening words. Overshadowing Paul’s dark circumstances in prison are his powerful words meant to convey faith-building expectations over the entire group of believers in Philippi. Let us all be encouraged because Paul’s words to them have become God’s words to us today.

This message gives us Heaven’s perspective on what it means to live a successful life in the sight of God. Mark it down: the American Dream is almost completely devoid of what success looks like in the Kingdom of God. Material success if vastly overrated, while Kingdom success remains greatly undefined among so many believers. Don’t be fooled by what the world is offering us - God wants to unpack His version of success for us so we can put it on every day of our lives.

In Romans chapter five, the Apostle Paul lays out several different realities that presently exist for every single Jesus-follower. As we begin new seasons with the Father, we must embrace these decrees over our lives in order to live out the destiny assigned to us in the Kingdom.

No other human life on the pages of scripture is quite like John the Baptist’s life. His birth was announced by the angel Gabriel. His life was the fulfillment of prophecy by Malachi and Isaiah. He introduced Jesus Christ as God’s son to the world. He intentionally shrank his own ministry and influence so that the mission of Jesus could take center-stage. In the end, John was thrown in prison for preaching righteousness, and in the prison he struggled with powerful doubts about Jesus. As we come to the last scene of his life, he does not speak a word. In full surrender to God’s plan, John passes from this world into the next as the first recorded Kingdom martyr in the New Testament. Let us learn, not only from how John lived, but how he died
