This week Colin is bringing us the Word, looking back over 2 Chronicles chapter 20. We have looked at this one before, but this time Colin brings out one particular example for us to look at how it can help us shape our lives around Christ. Let’s listen to what God has to say to us.

This week, Richard brings another section from 2 Chronicles, with a huge and personal message to the people of New City Church MK especially. This one is really worth a listen!

The Hebrew book of Chronicles has been divided in our bibles into 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles. The church father, Jerome, suggested that it should be called the “Chronicle of all sacred history”. In this overview, intended to introduce a short series, Richard pulls out three strands where God is not yet “done”: humanity, sinners and His King.  

Azariah the prophet called on King Asa of Judah to seek the Lord, because if they did, they would find God. Asa and his subjects in Judah and Benjamin, did just that by pulling down idols and cleansing their relationship with God through sacrifices. As we are in the first few days of a new year, how could we draw closer to God?

Steve asks whether we are able to sing this Psalm in our own strength, and how being followers of Christ helps us to live out the meaning of the Psalm, especially as we look forward to a new year.

It’s 50 years since astronauts first circled the moon and witnessed the ‘Earth rise’. This Christmas accomplishment in 1968 came at huge cost and with great personal risk. In this Christmas family service we thought about how God, at great cost and personal risk, came to Earth for us. Psalm 100 is a psalm of praise. The second half is a mirror image of the first half with the centre of the whole psalm focusing on praising God for who He is. Too often we get caught up in thanking God for what He has given us, but how often do we thank God for who He is? “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) As we pause and reflect on the sacrifice made by all those in our armed services in the Great War and in conflicts over the 100 years since, Richard speaks about how Jesus Christ gave his life for us all so that we might live.
