How do we keep legalism and false religion from creeping into the Church, and yet uphold God's sovereignty and holiness? The early Church faced many of these same struggles.

The first church to be called Christian in recorded history remains a prime example of our calling as followers of Christ.

How do we measure a year in a life? How do we measure in Christ?

Do we truly grasp the concept of an eternal God made man, the infinite made finite, the all-powerful humbling himself for our sake?

We devote our allegiance to causes, politicians, celebrities, and athletes... everywhere except to the one who can save us, the King of all creation, the God-man Christ Jesus.

Immanuel, God with us, a name which represents the character and mission of God in Jesus. He knows fully well the pain to come and the wickedness of fallen humanity. And yet he enters this messiness as a tiny infant for our sake.

The genealogy of Jesus is important. It not only shows the authenticity of the Gospel, but also how God can fulfill his promises through all kinds of people and situations. 

We see a clear example of God's intention for the Church to suffer and grow with these believers, the first to be called Christians.

Acts now presents us with the first glimpse of the Gospel Mission expansion, welcoming Gentiles (and all non-Jews) into the fold.
