If you know anyone who has been a landlord, you know they hit or miss on tenants. In this week's text, Jesus is letting the current tenants know the landlord is kicking them out and bringing in new ones. These tenants of the kingdom will do four things the current ones are not: accept Jesus' authority, do the Father's will, keep Christ as their cornerstone, and produce kingdom fruit. Have you ever been in a place where someone of great position and stature walked into the room and completely changed the dynamic of it? Even though this week's passage is just six verses, we will see a figure that looms large: The person of Jesus Christ. Matthew shows us how there is power in His presence and gives disciples of Jesus clues as to how we ought to emulate His life. When workers who labored all day receive the same pay as those who worked only an hour, it sparks grumbling and raises a question many of us wrestle with: what is truly fair? People have different ways of doing things. Whether that be a task or a job, there is more than one way to accomplish them. When it comes to the topic of salvation, there are truly only two ways people approach it: Man's Way or God's Way. This Sunday we will look at Jesus' interaction with the rich young ruler where he will attempt to achieve salvation man's way but Jesus will point him to the reality that salvation can only happen God's way. We often ask the wrong questions. Fortunately, Jesus always answers the right question. This Sunday we will look at a group of people trying to trap Jesus with a question about divorce. This is an extremely important question, but not the first one we should be asking. Come hear how Jesus eventually answers their question, but not before answering the question they should've asked, “What is God's vision for marriage?”
