In John 14:18, Jesus promises his people that "I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you." War and antagonism run on the FEAR that there won't be enough for me and mine. War runs and is fueled by a scarcity mindset. The seeds of war are already planted within the American political landscape. We thrive on demonization of the other, antagonism and polarization. 

Holy Spirit meets our fear with love, enabling us to be a people of peace in a culture at war. He meets our insecurity with his promise of loving provision by his very presence. We, no matter the result of the election or the state of the world, will not be left as orphans. Jesus has come and is coming to us.

In the midst of political polarization and our entanglement with political powers and principalities, Psalm 146 urges us to pledge our allegiance to Jesus and to hope in God alone, resisting the temptation to trust in princes (or presidents). As the church do not strive to change the world, but rather be the world changed by Christ, living under King Jesus' reign of love and embodying his politic. The Church is not a voting block to be wooed but a political body to bear witness.
