Our union with the Lord Jesus Christ has gained us many blessings and benefits. By grace and the work of God we are a spiritual people, redeemed by blood and prepared for glory. We are not of this world but look for a city whose builder and maker is God.
The love of the Lord Jesus for His people is a rare and special blessing. Here the Saviour tells us how He loves us as His Father loves Him.
Luk 8:19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
Luk 8:20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
Luk 8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
The Lord Jesus is the True Vine. All our spiritual life, grace and blessing comes as we abide in Him. Believers do abide in Him and He promises to freely supply all we need to make our lives fruitful for His Father’s glory.
Luk 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
Luk 8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
Luk 8:18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
The Lord Jesus adds promise upon promise, gift upon gift, blessing upon blessing to His troubled disciples as He prepares them for His suffering and departure.
God in three Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit are promised to every believer to live in our heart and unite with our soul. The Lord Jesus Christ tells His disciples that that they will be comforted upon His going away from them by the spiritual presence of the Holy Spirit and the coming of the Father and Son to abide with them.
The Apostles were called to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Church was provided with the method, the men and the message to be preached. We do well to follow this pattern.
