[Convo starts 5:56] Comedy. Cooking. Creativity. Meet Chris "CD" Jenkins, a 27 year old engineer and creative representing "The Garden City" Orangeburg, South Carolina! 

"Success is intentional!" Chris the kid genius graduated from Clemson University and went on to earn two Master's Degrees. After moving from Chicago to Atlanta and climbing the corporate ladder,  he got a call that his company would layoff over 10,000 employees and he was on the list. Chris channeled his late Father's love for cooking and decided it was time to continue his legacy and become "CD the Chef".

CD is most importantly the cohost of the hilarious podcast The Bottomless Truth alongside grad school roommate Juice. Back then, they escaped to have "real discussion" when experiencing trouble with the law. Fast forward to today and 36 episodes later, the show now captures close to 1K downloads per episode! 

Chris' intelligence and tenacity stems much from his family values that were instilled in Orangeburg. We talk about the plight of colored people in the South, Chris' life experiences and lessons, and what it takes to be a creative! This episode is full of southern love and the encouragement for all listeners to explore their creativity!

[Convo starts 5:37] Transparency. Support. Mental Health Awareness. Meet Amara Sturkey, a beautiful 24 year young woman representing the small town of Marion, South Carolina! At the tender age of 23, Amara lost her grandmother and her world completely took a spiral. After medically withdrawing from college and missing work, she knew that this problem was greater than a lack of grieving her recent loss. She was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and later Bipolar I disorder.

After suffering for months in silence, she was encouraged to tell her story and created The Silent Me, a non-profit organization that strives to raise awareness about mental health and help erase the negative stigmas associated with them. Since its creation just one year ago, Amara has spoken over 50 times at numerous events across SC, NC, and GA, and hosted the first annual The Silent Me Walk in Marion, SC during Mental Health Awareness Month (May 2017).  

Her transparency is REMARKABLE and there is so much that everyone can learn from this episode. Be sure to listen to this episode and share its gems with your loved ones who may be suffering or supporting someone suffering, and those who do not know what mental illness looks like.

As a licensed therapist, Suma Hodge, MS LAC has been able to use her passion for counseling and experiences as a mother to bring The Licensed Mom blog as well as Mommy and Mimosa's Brunch event. She desires to help women transition through motherhood while never losing self identity!
