In New Hampshire, as in many other states, commercial motor vehicles may need a DOT (Department of Transportation) number for identification, regulations, and safety oversight. As of my last update in January 2022, you would need a USDOT number in New Hampshire if you operate:

1. Commercial Motor Vehicles in Interstate Commerce to transport passengers or haul cargo, when the vehicle:

• The truck has a gross truck weight is rating of a gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, whichever is greater; or
• Your business is designed or used to move more than 8 passengers (people) (including the driver) for compensation in money or
• Is designed or used to transport in a van or limo more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or
• The trucks are used in moving material found by the Secretary of Transportation to be hazardous (chemicals) under 49 U.S.C. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding (place clearly on tuck) regulations prescribed by 49 CFR, subtitle B, chapter I, subchapter C.

1. Commercial Motor Vehicles in Intrastate Commerce if they meet similar criteria as above, but only operate within New Hampshire.
