8/16/20 - The Parable of the Fig Tree
The Fig Tree is an interesting tree, especially the role it played in Biblical times. It represented the Jewish people, who were expected to bear fruit by leading righteous lives and sharing God's truths with other people and nations of the world.
Jesus came to bring division among people, but peace to our hearts.
Luke 12:56 - Hyprocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?
In Luke 12:57-59 He's urging us to settle our accounts with God. And that no one can get out of hell without being held accountable for every sin... which begins with repentance...

Luke 13:1-9 - Christ's call for Repentance
Interesting, in v. 1-5 this doesn't say that everyone rejected Christ, yet the entire nation was still held accountable.
- It sounds a lot like America today.
It also emphasizes that death comes quickly and unexpectedly.He's reminding us of our mortality.He urges them to repent or they will perish.
This passage today begs the question, "How displeased is Jesus with the fruit-less-ness in my life?"
The tree was unfruitful for 3 years.
