Today we embark on a new sermon series based on the book by Robert Schnase, "Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations." As individuals and as a community of faith, we will listen and discern how our mission and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ can be more fruitful and life-giving!
In the gospel of John, Jesus tells his newly recruited disciples to "come and see" - come and see God's love at work in the world, come and see how you can put your faith into action, come and see how God wants you to love and serve others. Friends, we are called to come and see and to participate in God's work in this time and place.
Today’s sermon is entitled “Being the Hands and Feet of Christ”. Using scriptures from 1 Peter 4:8-11, the Rev. Dr Caressa invites the members of New Hope who helped in last week’s Hand’s of Hope – a service designed to go into our community to serve with our, tangibly, hands and feet.
Using scriptures from Exodus 20:8-11, the Rev. Dr Caressa highlights God’s 4th commandment to Moses and the Israelites to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Her message is guided by the questions: “If you had a whole day to do whatever you wanted, what would I look like?” and “What prevents you from having the day?” because sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do on your Sabbath is take a nap and to include spiritual renewal and worship.
