The helmet was one of the most important pieces of a Roman soldier's armor. It provided the soldier with identity (commanders would know which unit was which because of the helmet) and protection.

We too have a helmet! Faith in Jesus changes who we are, and this helmet also protects our minds.

Shoes may seem an odd choice for Paul to mention as part of the Armor of God, but they're actually critically important!

The footwear of a Roman soldier wasn't just slipped on - they were tied on. They had cleats on the bottom that were sharp. These shoes provided stability and mobility for the soldier and the cleats allowed them to stand firm when the enemy attacked. Ephesians 6 (and many other scriptures) tell us to “stand firm” and “go.” We need to do this with the Gospel of Peace!
