Russ Berrie created the Making a Difference Awards two decades ago, explaining to The New York Times, "It's another way of looking at philanthropy — inspiring people to look at themselves and what they can do for the community."

Alex and Izabela, owners of Java Smugglers, have created a place where community can spend a pleasant time, read a book, network, and more, all while enjoying delicious coffee and pastries.

But before they had their brick-and-mortar coffee shop, located in Boonton NJ, they started small but with persistence and discipline they've accomplish a lot.

They started selling their product online, after little success, they decided to go the farmers market, they bought a minivan, then they got a stand, then they bought a bus and customized it to serve coffee and finally on February 3rd of 2023 they open their first brick-and-mortar, they plan to have many more locations.

If there is one thing we can learn from Alex and Izabela, is to give yourself permission to dream big and be willing to start small, be willing to work hard and make sacrifices to reach your goals.
