POWER, PRESTIGE, STATUS…the disciples were ordinary men chasing after the same qualities many chase after today. Except, they wanted to be the greatest in the kingdom of God. So they asked Jesus with hopes he would declare one of them to hold this coveted position. Jesus’s response, unfortuntely, would’ve left them bewildered.
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- Matthew18:3-4
This is why God’s kingdom is referred to as an upside down kingdom. What God values vastly differs from worldly values. Jesus tells us in our passage, greatness in God’s kingdom actually comes through humility.
What does it mean to live in HUMILITY?
1. Humility Maintains a Clear View of “Who I Really Am”
2. Humility Pushes Against Self-Reliance and Depends on God for Everything
3. Humility Fights Against Selfishness and Embraces Selflessness
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” - C.S. Lewis
