Reflection on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Luke 4:21-30

IN a new year, we take seriously God's promise to be with us in all our circumstances and to bring us light, hope, and peace.

Regardless of our efforts, the Kingdom of God cannot be influenced or controlled; only received as a gift.

Suffering is the one thing we hold in common - we all suffer. Jesus invites us to share our suffering and to join others in their suffering. Why? Because we discover God working for good in the center of our pain. 

Are we ready to have our future claimed by God? Do our ways confine or limit; restrain and monitor? Or are we ready to connect to God's story and hear our relatives Moses and Elijah speak truth to us? You and I have the incredible privilege to live the life God has given us. Will we represent righteousness in the face of what is not right? Wisdom where wisdom is needed? Can we be the voice of love where no love exists?

Jesus frees us from whatever is binding us so that we are free for all that God has in store for us.

Epiphany is not just about remembering the past manifestations of Jesus' greatness, but also acknowledging what deserves our amazement, wonder and praise.

The community of faith gathers to remind one another of God's great promises and to grab hold of God's goodness and love.
