Some teach that God spoke miraculously in the first century but is now silent and speaks only through Scripture. In week three of the Counterfeit series, Pastor Dale Hester teaches that the Bible is the supreme authority, yet the living God still speaks, leads, and works through the Holy Spirit. He warns against putting God in a box and calls us to test everything against God's Word, with the accountability of other believers, and by its fruit.
A counterfeit does not deny Jesus; it adds something to what He has already done. In week two of the Counterfeit series, Pastor Dale Hester teaches from Galatians that Jesus plus anything else is another gospel, and that the Holy Spirit works only where our faith rests in Jesus alone.
1. The counterfeit sounds spiritual, but it is deadly, because it adds to what Jesus already did.
2. The addition becomes the mission. Church attendance, Bible reading, fasting, serving and giving are good, but they are not how we earn God's approval.
3. Grace alone sets you free; works burden you and weigh you down. It is grace or works, not both.
The twelve spies went to the same land and saw the same fruit and the same giants, yet ten came back with a problem and two came back with a promise. In this final message of Blockbuster Summer, Pastor Cory Hester asks what we will see when we face our giants: fear or faith.
1. We don't have a problem seeing the giants, but the enemy whispers lies about who we are. Ask, "Who told you that?"
2. Faith sees God. Don't measure yourself against the giant; measure the giant against God.
3. What will you see? Wrong vision costs you and the people who are watching you.
What if the prayer God is waiting on is not the polished one, but the one you have been too embarrassed to pray? In the Blockbuster Summer series, Pastor Cory Hester teaches from Mark 9 about the father who cried out, "I believe; help my unbelief," and shows that God wants our honest faith, even when it is mixed with doubt.
1. Your struggle is real. You don't have to pretend you have it all together.
2. Your doubt is real. Don't perform through it; bring your faith and your doubts to Jesus.
3. Your prayer is real. Don't stop praying, because Jesus answers the honest prayer.
Many of us want the result without paying the price, and we want relief without transformation. In Blockbuster Summer 2026, Pastor Cory Hester opens with a clip from The Matrix and preaches John 5, where Jesus meets a man who had lain by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years.
1. The question that exposes us: Do you want to get well? Our pool, whatever we keep running back to, can become our excuse.
2. The cost that confronts us: following Jesus will cost us comfort, relationships, and excuses, and it cost Jesus everything.
3. The command that changes us: stand up, pick up your mat, and walk, and do not leave a bed waiting at your old life.
King Jehoshaphat faced three armies and did not know what to do, so he went to God. In this final sermon of Battle Tested, Pastor Dale Hester uses 2 Chronicles 20 to show what to do when life is overwhelming and you do not know which way to turn.
1. Admit you are in over your head. Breakthroughs begin when we admit we need God.
2. Position yourself in God's presence by seeking him together through prayer, fasting, and gathering.
3. Worship your way through the battle. Before the victory ever came, Judah sang, and God moved the moment they began.
The moment you say yes to God, hell comes after you, and the enemy attacks right where you are tired and vulnerable. In Battle Tested, Pastor Dale Hester walks through Jesus' temptation in Matthew 4 to show how the devil works and how Jesus won.
1. The devil lies about who you are. Your identity is not based on how you feel but on what God has said in his word.
2. Guard your identity in Christ. Temptation promises easy but delivers empty, and shortcuts never work.
3. Win the way Jesus did: it is written. Trust the finished work of Christ, hide scripture in your heart, and let the Holy Spirit use it.
