About Our Guests

Matt Muller, PhD | Dr. Matt Muller is an assistant professor of theology and associate director for programs for the Gregorian Institute at Benedictine College. He teaches courses in the theology as well as evangelization and catechesis programs. His research interest is in the thought and legacy of Saint John Henry Newman. He has served on the board of directors for the Saint John Henry Newman Association of America and the editorial board for Newman Studies Journal. Through his work with the Gregorian Institute, Dr. Muller directs the annual, Symposium on the Transformation of Culture. He completed his PhD in historical theology from Saint Louis University in May 2017. He has a Masters in Catholic Studies from the University of St Thomas, in Minnesota. After graduating from Benedictine in 2006, he served for three years as a missionary with FOCUS at the University of Illinois.

Joe Wurtz, PhD | Dr. Wurtz received his BA in philosophy from Benedictine College, his Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas and his doctorate in Higher Education Administration at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He worked as a Resident Director at Benedictine and as Director of Student Activities. He served as the Dean of Students at Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, before returning to Benedictine. Wurtz served as a FOCUS missionary at Benedictine College from 1999-2000 and at the University of Denver from 2000-2001. He has served on the Board of Directors for FOCUS. He and his wife, Megan, live in Atchison, Kansas, with their six children.

Bishop Andrew Cozzens | Pope Francis appointed the Most Rev. Andrew Cozzens as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Crookston on Oct. 18, 2021. Bishop Cozzens, who served as Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis from 2013 to 2021, was born August 3, 1968. He currently serves as the chair of the board for NET Ministries, St. Paul’s Outreach, The Institute for Priestly Formation and The Seminary Formation Council. Additionally, Bishop Cozzens is the chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis where on behalf of the bishops he is leading a three-year National Eucharistic Revival that will begin in June of 2022.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann | The Most Reverend Joseph F. Naumann was installed as the 4th Archbishop and the 11th Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas on January 15, 2005. His chosen episcopal motto is, “Vitae Victoria Erit” (Life will be Victorious). Archbishop Naumann has championed the cause for the right to life throughout his ministry. Archbishop Naumann was born on June 4, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 1975, and Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis/Titular Bishop of Caput Cilla on September 3, 1997. He was appointed as Coadjutor Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas on January 7, 2004, and assumed responsibilities as Archbishop on January 15, 2005.

He served as a submarine officer in the Navy where he had the opportunity to be a Catholic lay leader for small groups of men during deployments out to sea. Jeff also served as the inaugural chairperson for the Young Adult Advisory Board to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. The Pearson family are grateful to celebrate one year of calling Kansas City their home! 

JohnMarc Skoch | I live in Overland Park, KS, with my wife Kelsey and our four children (newborn son not pictured below). My role in FOCUS is as a Senior Regional Director and FOCUS Music Director. As a Senior Regional Director I work with 5 campus teams in the state of Kansas. My role is to work with the Team Directors at each campus to make sure they are living out the Universal Call to Holiness, and leading their team and students to do the same. As FOCUS Music Director, I manage all of the musical needs for the organization from SEEK to our Summer Training, and retreats. My role is to ensure that the music at each event FOCUS offers has a consistent liturgical vision, and upholds true reverence in worship as called for by Church teaching.

Marco Casanova | I’m a Roman Catholic, baptized as a baby of a lovely family in Houston, TX. There, a desire to serve the Lord as a priest welled up in my heart. I eventually entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, PA. I was in priestly formation for eight and half years, and completed undergraduate and graduate studies in Philosophy and Theology. Coming to grips with my need for radical redemption in my broken sexuality, I surrendered my plan to become a priest, and resigned from the seminary. I immediately came on as an intern with Desert Stream Ministries. Working now as the Assistant Director, I have been privileged to work alongside this healing army.
