The overapplication of fertilizer on Wisconsin farms has led to widespread nitrate contamination in public and private water wells. That’s according to a new, collaborative study by Clean Wisconsin and the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
This drinking water contamination isn’t just a public health concern, the study contends. It’s also costing local municipalities millions of dollars to clean up their water supply.
