And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.
Mark 2:22
This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Louis Els shared on Sunday titled ‘New Wineskin’.
Firstly, we need to understand that the new wine is not our responsibility. God will take care of the wine. It is His Spirit and His life and He wants to pour it out on us. However, if new wine enters an old wine skin, the skin might burst, causing the wine and the skin to be lost.
This is where we see our responsibility: the state of our wine skin. This means submitting to the way God wants us to live and the way He wants to do things. It is easy to want God to do things the way we think they should be done, but that is rarely the way He will do things. He calls everyday people to stand up for His Kingdom and do what He calls us to do.
Thankfully, we do not need to do this alone. God wants to make sure that we don’t burst. He wants to look after us. If we feel dry and brittle and empty, Jesus is ready and waiting to restore us and anoint us so that we can take in the new wine without being offended and hurt by it.
What areas of your life have become like old wineskins?
What is God calling you to do to advance His Kingdom?
How can you surrender yourself afresh in order to allow God to restore and align you?
