  • Calling BS on Candidate Ghosting
For years recruiters have been ghosting candidates so we are calling BS on candidate ghosting, the latest phenomenon to apparently plague recruiters and we discuss how to stop it.
Katrina Collier shows companies how to solve the problem of candidate engagement. Recruiters, HR and hiring leaders don’t have an issue finding people, they have an issue evoking a response, engaging people and stopping candidates from ghosting because for too long technology has been placed before the human. She is the author of The Robot-Proof Recruiter and uses her extensive industry experience to deliver keynotes and facilitate offsites globally, which inspire all those involved in the recruitment lifecycle to use a human-first mindset.
She is also the founder of 5 DisruptHR UK events inspiring people to express their ideas and be heard in a new community, an Ambassador for Hope for Justice aiming to end modern day slavery, and co-host of The #SocialRecruiting Show podcast. You’ll find her championing the #BeHuman cause on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @KatrinaMCollier.

  • Calling BS on Performance Evaluations & Reviews
Imagine you run HR for a company. You walk into the CEO's office with an idea - I want to bring the entire organization together for one week and have everyone review each other. They are going to hate doing it, the systems will be fractured, it will cost millions in employee's time, and the result will reduce productivity. The CEO would likely kick you out of her office or fire you because it's a really bad idea. Yet, we've been doing this for decades and most companies continue the practice of performance evaluations and reviews today.
We asked Janine Truitt to join us on the show to call bullshit on performance evaluations and reviews. As Janine says "the contributions of human beings deserve more than a once-a-year summary of highlights and flawed behaviors to describe what they contribute to a company. Like most things in HR, we look for ways to file and rank people like cattle because it makes creating one-size-fits-all strategies and programs easy. Paying attention to individual contributions and matching that with meaningful moments and recognition is what makes coming to work and sacrificing family, time, and energy worth it for many people, but we would rather prioritize a process over people."
Janine is the Owner/Chief Innovations Officer for Talent Think Innovations, LLC, a business strategy and management consulting firm. Her career spans fourteen years in HR and Talent Acquisition that has taken her through the world of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, staffing, and R&D. Janine is a dynamic speaker, entrepreneur, and an important and respected voice bringing both a human touch and business savvy to the companies and businesses she works with.

  • Calling BS on How Companies Motivate Their People w/ Ric Dec of Vega Factor
For years companies have used various motivation tools and strategies to try and get employees to meet and exceed their job expectations. We have used bonus plans, sales commission programs, competency frameworks as a means to solve the skills gap, frequent feedback conversations as the next answer for performance management, and org re-structures as the answer to all ills.
Well, a few researchers and our next guest, Ric Dec, call BS. In fact, in their book Primed to Perform, the folks at Vega Factor say that you can measure an organization's total motivation (or ToMo) by looking at 6 factors and that score correlates to sales, client/customer success and overall performance. Yes, an HR metric that you can impact that translates to real business metrics!
Rich Dec heads the high-performance practice at Vega Factor and is a consultant and public speaker. Ever since he was a youth basketball player, he has been obsessed with figuring out how to create environments for people to thrive at work, at school, in sports, and in life. • Calling BS on Diversity Theater w/ LaToya Lyn
New Yawk HR tackles a very topical subject - diversity and inclusion. Why hasn't the needle moved? We continue to struggle with gender and race diversity in companies of all sizes even with an increase in staffing, budget and focus around D & I. Is it because we are avoiding the root cause of systemic issues around people that are different? We are joined by LaToya Lyn to call BS and discuss ways to REALLY make an impact on diversity and inclusion.
LaToya has cultivated a deep passion for people, especially people in the workplace. Holding a dual masters in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior - her professional experience spans from executive leadership coaching and alignment to drive key business results to work in a cognitive neuroscience laboratory contributing to the world of research about human behavior.
LaToya has also worked across many industries, including digital media, fashion, consulting and now technology. This passion for HR was cultivated when she was fired from her first job at the tender age of 16 years old when LaToya's then-manager told her “We need our people in their place to make sure everything goes right”. It was that moment on LaToya sparked an interested in understanding the dynamics and behaviors between people in the workplace.

  • Calling BS on HR Metrics w/ Maya Carmeli (CEO, Co-Founder Cally)
We all know that the first slide in all our HR/People reports is headcount. Headcount last month, a few months back, and the entire year last year. It's typically a bar graph, showing the ups and downs of your headcount. For the eager analyst, there may also be a trend line. With the help of Maya Carmeli, CEO and Co-Founder of Cally, we are calling BS on current HR metrics. While the HR world has become a bit more interested in metrics, it has become focused on the wrong metrics (or at least useless metrics). Maya calls them vanity metrics and questions the data collection methods that are providing no strategic value for decision making (she LOVES the headcount metric too!). Maya also wants to call BS on siloed HR departments where this data and knowledge about the company and its people are held up. It's time to democratize people metrics to the folks that make decisions every day, your leaders.
Maya is the CEO & Co-founder at Cally, software that gives voice to employees and helps managers be better leaders to their teams. Maya holds a Bachelors in HR and Labor Relations from Rutgers University and a Masters from Cornell’s ILR school. She has a background working in human resources and team consulting, specifically in large companies where she realized that traditional HR is broken. Maya was born in Brooklyn and was raised both in Tel-Aviv and the NY/NJ area. For fun, Maya likes to ski, read academic papers like a nerd, and drink excessive amounts of coffee (like a New Yawker). Find her on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Wellness programs have been in existence for decades. The average company spends $1,200 per EE per year on wellness, it's a billion dollar industry. Dig deeper (thanks to good SEO and Ad buys these are buried stories) you find that most employees don't participate, think its a waste of time, and HR leaders are baffled by the lack of impact. Why?

Robin Schooling, Head of People with Strio Consulting, has spent her career in HR and Recruiting with the stories and battle scars to match.
