The Spiritual Framework for Marriage and Intimate Relationships

Relationships teach us some of the deepest truths about humanity, especially in friendship, family, intimacy, and marriage. Marriage becomes holy when it mirrors heaven through humility, deep listening, forgiveness, gratitude, and the daily work of regeneration. Soul mates are real, whether we find them here or there, and when two people build a little heaven together, they discover each other and the precious jewel of human life.

Where Do We Draw the Line?

      Love Beyond the Lines

We know it’s important to speak and act from principle and to set clear boundaries; but how do we balance that with compassion, empathy, humility, and forgiveness? Scripture is full of rigid rules and regulations, often coming with harsh consequences—Yet Jesus teaches and models unconditional love, awesome compassion, deep understanding and forgiveness! How can we hold both of these truths simultaneously and not draw fuzzy lines? What does it look like to love beyond the lines—after the line has been crossed?

“This they said, tempting him, that they might have reason to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.” (John 8:6)

When Do We Draw the Line?

It’s not easy to know when to draw the line. When should we speak up, and when is silence wiser? When do we take a stand, and when do we simply listen? When do we stay fully engaged in a relationship, and when is it time to step back?

There are no simple answers. But God does give us tools to help us navigate a way forward.

The Headlines Don’t Get the Last Word

Research shows that negative headlines aren’t accidental. The system is built this way because negativity captures attention.

But what captures attention doesn’t have to capture our heart. There is a place deeper than just the headlines where God resides.

                    Is Life Getting Better?

In the midst of everyday life, it can be difficult to feel like things are truly getting “better.” But perhaps we can shift our perspective. Perhaps we can begin to see life the way God does—not necessarily better in every moment, but always moving toward something better when viewed through the lens of eternity.
