An appeals court has ruled that the New Orleans City Council does not have to sign a contract with Henry Consulting to provide sanitation services for the French Quarter and other portions of downtown New Orleans. Mayor Cantrell was indicted by a federal grand jury on 18 federal charges, including 14 counts of wire fraud and one count each of conspiracy, conspiracy to obstruct justice, obstruction of justice, false statements, and false declarations before a grand jury, and federal prosecutors allege that Cantrell participated in a years-long scheme to defraud the City of New Orleans and the NOPD (with bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie.) This marks the first time in the Crescent City's history that a mayor faces federal charges while in office. Craig Murdock, New Orleans Criminal Defense Attorney, joins Newell to talk about it.
