  • Louisiana hasn't disciplined a prosecutor for withholding evidence in 20 years
Louisiana, a state that stands out as a hotbed for reversed convictions, hasn't disciplined a prosecutor for withholding evidence in 20 years. And it’s not for lack of opportunity. Since 2021, when Orleans Parish DA Jason Williams launched a civil rights division with the goal of addressing past infractions, judges have freed dozens of long-serving prisoners while citing lapses by the state. None has resulted in misconduct charges from the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, which polices the state’s 23,000 lawyers.
