Even Jesus arrived with a wait: although we turn a single page, four hundred years of silence spanned the gap between the final prophecies we read in the Old Testament and the birth of Jesus. No prophet, no voice, no signs, no wonders. You can almost hear the questions: Did God care? Had He vanished? Was He ever really there? Finally, with a single cry in a stable in Bethlehem, the silence was broken: the arrival of a baby, born in the midst of darkness and despair was hope fulfilled, a miracle in motion. And the good news? In the same way it did two thousand years ago, Advent brings with it the assurance that no matter what you’re waiting on, God promises hope is on the way.
