Jesus is declared the Prince of Peace by the prophet Isaiah, a declaration that often stands in stark contrast to the absence of peace in our world. So where is our Prince of Peace? Jospeh; engaged to Mary, the earthly dad of Jesus, is one biblical figure who we don’t know much about, at least from a brief reading of the Scriptures. What we do know is that he was a righteous man. A tsaddîyq in fact, and with that status came great responsibility and great reputation. Looking at Matthew 1:18-25 we explored what happens when God calls us to fulfil our responsibilities, whilst at the same time having to forsake our reputations.

Zechariah doubted God that God would speak to him and answer his prayers for a son. But God did speak and act decisively. And God still does today, often despite our low expectations. Stu Cameron explores Zechariah's story, which in many ways is familiar to ours.

Doubt grips everyone and defines some, tragically. But it need not. It is up to you if your doubts will master you or in fact you will master them, whether they will draw you toward god or push you away from him. As has been said ‘Doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs.’ As we jump into the first week of advent and explore the beginning of the Christmas story we are looking at Zechariah, who wrestled with doubts his whole life. Through his story revealed to us, we can find help for the doubts that we wrestle with.
