The relationship between tech biggies and third-party app developers seems to be taking a huge toll on users globally as it is their data that’s on the line. Ever since the Cambridge Analytica fiasco came to light, many tech companies have updated their privacy policies thanks to the GDPR and stringent cyber laws.

Still, there have been certain stones left unturned. Now Gmail has been caught in an ugly storm. According to a Wall Street Journal Report, some third-party app developers had gained access to users’ data on Gmail and were able to read whatever data was available online!

Google recently came out with a rebuttal saying that it was only vetting third-party apps and not reading the data.

Many might believe what Google is saying, but the rabbit hole goes deeper. Here’s a closer look at this whole mess that Google has got itself in.

Malaysian PM Mahathir Muhammad recently met the controversial Indian Islamic preacher and televangelist Zakir Naik. While it is Malaysia’s sovereign right to host Naik, there was no need for Mahathir to meet the fugitive. His meeting is a clear snub to India, writes Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty.

On 8 July 2018, a report in TOI stated that 119 of the 122 Indian Police Service (IPS) trainee officers had failed in one or more subject in their final examination. The total number of trainees appearing for the exams is 136, with 14 being foreign police officers.

These trainee officers from the 2016 batch, had graduated from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), despite failing their exams.

While it is Malaysia’s sovereign right to host Naik, there was no need for Mahathir to meet the fugitive. His meeting is a clear snub to India. As Prime Minister, Mahathir has signaled, via the meeting, that he is not particularly concerned about India’s sensitivities and, perhaps, his sympathies as a practicing Muslim, may lie with Naik. Mahathir told new agencies that Naik will not be deported since he has Permanent Residency [PR], as long as he does not create any problems.
