At the Reagan Library last weekend, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos expressed concern about the national security of the United States and derided those in the business community who fail to understand, as he put it, “We are the good guys.”

Bezos warned that “If Big Tech is going to turn their back on national defense, this country is in trouble.” In fact, Google, for example, is not only refusing to work with the Pentagon. It is actually helping the Chinese Communist Party advance its military, as well as commercial, capabilities.

Cynics contend that the Amazon chief is simply trying to burnish his credentials as he challenges a recent $10 billion Pentagon award to rival Microsoft. We’ll see. But his expressed concerns about our declining innovation and rising threats in space and elsewhere from China are most needed, and must be heeded.
