President Muhammadu Buhari and  his All Progressives Congress Congress have asked the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to expunge from its records over 28000 result sheets of the February 23 2019 election in 10 states tendered by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar . 

They also urged the Justice Mohammed Garba - led tribunal of of five judges to reject the testimony of the petitioners'  40th, 59th, and 60th witnesses. Atiku’s spokesperson ,Mr Segun Showunmi, was the 40th witness witness; David Njorga from Kenya, who was described by the petitioners as their “ expert witness ” was the 59th witness; while Joseph Gbenga, a data analyst was the 60th witness. Among the 28,428 documents documents, whose admissibility was being challenged by Buhari and the APC, are 28,395 certified true copies of polling unit , local government, ward and state result sheets of 10 states. The states are Yobe, Kebbi, Borno, Kano, Bauchi, Katsina ,Jigawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Niger. Buhari and the APC prayers ,urging the tribunal not to act on the documents , , are contained in their separate objections to the admissibility of the the petitioners documents earlier admitted conditionally as exhibits the tribunal.

 Nigerian Trade Union Congress (TUC) has threatened the Federal Government with industrial action over minimum wage implementation. 

The TUC warned that it could embark on industrial action if President Muhammadu Buhari-administration doesn’t implement the new minimum wage by Wednesday, August 14, 2019. The new minimum wage had been passed by the National Assembly in March 2019, and signed into law by President Buhari in April. The government is, however, yet to implement it. The delay in the implementation may force the trade unions to embark on strike. According to the Chairman of TUC in Ekiti State, Sola Adigun, the government has been foot-dragging the implementation despite the private sector’s readiness to follow suit with the new minimum wage. Adigun added that any government that is serious about fighting corruption will pay living wages to its workers.” 

According to Winifred Oyo-Ita , the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation the delay is based on an unrealistic percentage increase being demanded by workers’ representatives in the Joint National Public Negotiation Council (JNPNC). She blamed the delay on workers on the Federal Government payroll over their rejection of the percentage increment proposed by the Federal team. She further stated that the delay might continue if the senior civil servants in the Federal civil service continue with their request. With the possibility of an increase in tax by the government, the Trade Union has advised the government against extorting workers through tax and rather divert the increase of tax to the High-net-worth individuals. 

 In order to execute the recent electricity deal signed by the Federal Government of Nigeria and German-based company, Siemen, Nigeria may spend about €3.11 billion or N1.15 trillion across four major states.

According to the Technical and Commercial Proposal obtained, the Nigerian electrification project which has three phases and is aimed at achieving 25,000 megawatts of electricity in the country by 2025 will require more than N1.15 trillion to execute.

According to the information contained in the technical proposal, the budgetary price for the transmission assets upgrade, which includes 11 containerised substations and 10 mobile substations is €330 million or N113.42 billion.

Similarly, the cost of the distribution assets upgrade was estimated at €250 million (N85.92 billion). The upgrade would include products and systems for 14 stations and upgrade of 26 substations.

The cost of system development studies for 25,000 MW transmission, sub-transmission and distribution grid capacity was put at €1 million.

President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Nigerian Electrification Roadmap which was presented by Siemens in November 2018. The deal was facilitated by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel last year, in August. The deal was signed in Abuja with the Global Chief Executive Officer of Siemens, Joe Kaeser
