However, the true answer is Jock McKernan, who won in 1986 and 1990, during Reagan's and Bush's presidencies, respectively. McKernan's first win in 1986 was notable for its split vote, with McKernan securing 39.9%, James Tierney 30.2%, Sherry Huber 15.1%, and John Minario 14.9%. The 1986 election paralleled the current midterm, with Reagan's second term facing fatigue and the Iran-Contra scandal.
