S&P Futures are slightly lower this morning as the market awaits reports from OPEC this morning and of course tomorrow's CPI report. The House is back in session today and talks on the spending bill likely to dominate the news on Capital Hill. UAW contract with the auto makers expires Thursday at 11:59 pm. Apple is set to release the iPhone 15 today. The upcoming ARM IPO is said to be oversubscribed. European stocks are mixed to lower this morning. Oil prices higher as the markets awaits the latest comments from OPEC & the IEA.

CME's Fed Watch tool indicate only a 7% chance of a rate high at the Sept FOMC meeting which takes place in two weeks. China's PMI data remained in contraction mode; manufacturing activity was higher in August as compared to July. In Europe, stocks are mixed to higher ahead of this morning economic data releases. Oil prices higher as China's PMI data came in better than expected.

Hurricane Idalia remains a key issue as the storm will make landfall today. In Europe, stocks are mixed to lower. Regional inflation data from Spain & Germany came in slightly hotter than anticipated. Oil prices remain elevated for now ahead of Hurricane Idalia making landfall. Also effecting oil prices was the API report which indicated a larger than expected draw on stockpiles.

The Fed data dependent mantra has the ability to create significant volatility in the markets. In Europe, the major indexes are showing gains & oil prices are ticking higher on news reports that China is pledging additional support for markets.
