The CPI report is widely watched by the Fed and is a major inflation indicator. The consumer price index is expected to rise between 0.2% - 0.3% in September. The year-over-year rate for overall CPI is expected to slow to a still-brisk 8.1% from 8.3% in August but the core measure is forecast to accelerate to 6.5% from 6.3%.
