Tracy and Chris are honored to have Dr. Doug Beacham on the Next Step Leadership Podcast again. The previous interviews with Bishop Beacham are some of the most popular of all of their episodes. Last year Dr. Beacham was chosen to continue serving as General Superintendent of the International Pentecost Holiness Church. Through that role—and his many years of pastoring, teaching, writing, preaching, and leading in a variety of positions—Doug has found great wisdom to endure the responsibilities of a leader. His knowledge of history, theology, literature, and church culture provide a needed perspective for today’s leaders. Those given opportunities by God to serve in His kingdom should remember the value of their calling.

Chris and Tracy continue their conversation with Holly Goddard. She grew as a leader through endurance and community. Please listen to her story. Your inner life is more important than your outward ministry. Refuse to try to control outcomes. Take a low place and let God craft your story. Ask yourself questions as you process what you hear. How have you been shaken in life and ministry? When have you wanted to quit? How can her story inspire and direct you in your journey? What thoughts challenge you to take healthy steps for your personal life, your family, and your ministry? Listen, ask questions, pursue healing, love being with Jesus, and watch for God to craft your story.

Tracy Reynolds and Chris Maxwell take time in this episode of Next Step Leadership to interview Holly Goddard. Holly did not plan to pursue ministry but academics and athletics taught her many lessons through sports marketing. After resisting God for so long, Holly grew into a deep relationship with Jesus. Through that personal experience, she realized how a life with Christ can transform her. She then moved from sports marketing to children’s ministry, and now serves as executive pastor at her church. Her story reveals how growing spiritually depends on healthy relationships and accountability. Holly is honest about her own struggles, and how the grace of God and His people moved her toward freedom.

In this episode, pastor and author Justin Kendrick continues talking about his book The Sacred Us: A Radical Call to Christian Community. Chris and Tracy love hearing Justin tell stories about how he and his church have lived out the true calling of Christlikeness. You will love learning from his comments also. He offers more than correction and rebuke for areas the church has failed. Many people are doing that these days. No, Justin offers principles of how the church can truly live as a sacred, kind, serving community. Peoples lives will be changed. People will realize they are loved by others and by their Creator. The complicated community of church can be a family of peace and transformation.

Chris and Tracy continue their conversation with Jonathan Bryan in this week’s Next Step Leadership. Jonathan is a young leader who decided to love others even though love often hurts, and to minister even though ministry is often painful. Listeners will notice how excited Tracy and Chris sound as they hear about Jonathan‘s six years of ministry. Jonathan continues offering suggestions on working to find the right ones to learn discipleship from, and how to begin mentoring others. His suggestions are important and practical: Control the controllable, prepare yourself for whatever future God might have for you, connect with the right people, develop a willingness to be a people person even if you are a natural introvert, and realize God will lead you toward a place where you can’t see the full picture. Jonathan encourages listeners to be humble servants driven by love and obedience, but distinguished by character, courage, and influence.

Chris Maxwell and Tracy Reynolds love each conversation they have in Next Step Leadership. They especially enjoy dialogues like this one with Jonathan Bryan in today’s episode. Chris and Tracy met Jonathan when he was a college student. Now they continue to smile as they watch Jonathan grow and develop in his ministry. Jonathan tells his story about life as a preacher’s kid, regular involvement in church, multiple generations of those who loved Jesus, calling into ministry, commitment during high school years, college life at Emmanuel, his present ministry vocation, and how he’s continued living committed to Jesus. As Jonathan mentions various mentors who directed him through the years, those listening should realize we each need the right mentors in our lives—and we all must see leadership as mentoring others.

This week’s episode of Next Step Leadership podcast continues a conversation Tracy and Chris had with author David Docusen. David’s hope of breaking cycles of poverty comes out in his words written and spoken. That hope is revealed in his actions. He doesn’t just write it or preach it. He has not let his research be the end of the story. His desire to start holistic communities begins with the heart of Jesus and becomes actions. Can’t we be disturbed with what disturbs God? Can’t we be bothered by what bothers God? Can’t we each use our gifts for the betterment of our community? David believes so. Listen to his heart. Learn from his story. Lead and love like Jesus. People are waiting for that type of love.

Chris Maxwell and Tracy Reynolds welcome you to the first podcast of 2023. Thank you so much for listening again. Thanks so much for passing this along to others. Please begin the new year claiming to regularly hear the podcast, subscribe, share, and find ways to apply the principles talked about in each podcast. Today, author David Ducusen joins Chris and Tracy and tells some of his story. David’s book Neighborliness brings a deep heart of love and care during a season of division and hate. How can today’s leaders show neighborliness? How did David learn the importance of that lifestyle? What does Jesus want leaders to do during this season? How can individuals and teams learn from David‘s story and climb a better ladder rather than today’s model of church shows and numbers?
