Welcome back to the Fun and Games podcast series!
In this track we hear voices from interviews conducted in the early 1990s for a project Auckland in the 30's. The interviews talked with people about their lived memories of growing up in the early part of the 20th century.
First up we hear from Brian Stevenson, interviewed by Sarah Dalton. Brian was born in 1900 and grew up in the Parnell and Remuera areas. Lindsay Slater born in 1919 in the Newton area, interviewed by Megan Hutching, recalls a game played with all the neighborhood children. Born in 1913 in Te Aroha, Eunice Ball-Guymer tells interviewer Sarah Dalton about the kind of fun that rural kids had with home made slides and eeling. Elva Shepherd, born in 1909 recalls learning to sew and making her dolls clothes and lastly Edna Mortensen born in 1917 describes a commonly played school game called Fives .
