Cory Richards’ new book is “The Color of Everything: A Journey to Quiet the Chaos Within”. And, for real, it’s a helluva read. But before he could write such a powerful work, the man had to have some experiences. In episode #109 of Nice Work, Cory shares his personal struggles with bipolar disorder and how it has impacted, well, just about everything he’s done, touched, loved, and undertaken. Cory shares hard-won insights into the complexities of finding validation and connection in pursuits like mountaineering, writing, and photography. This is an instant classic episode of ‘Nice Work’ and well-deserves your earballs. xoxox.

Writer, journalist, adventurer JON LURIE is our guest today and we know you’ll love him. We talk about his heart transplant, his old book, his new book, his movie, Minnesota rock and roll, Markus Hoeckner, astral traveling, Lakotas, Dakotas, Clyde Bellecourt, Greg Norton, Joe Perez, the invisible but felt psychic connections that weave all humans together once they’ve had even the briefest exchange, and a whole lot more. Long story short, Jon is helping make the most Minnesota movie ever and if you know anyone who lives in that state, or in an adjacent state that wishes it was as cool as Minnesota, or the rest of the states that will never be as cool as Minnesota (except California, of course), you should send them this episode. 🙂

Former top Apple executive SANDRA ŠOŠKIÇ is the founder of humanoid labs. Her personal motto “go bold or go home” has defined her life, loves, failures, and successes. Listen in for a great founder/entrepreneur story as we jump into what, exactly, humanoid is…and how Sandra and her team are working to create an entirely new and innovative segment, one that embraces a new generation’s evolution away from comfortable (and toxic) conformity. Sandra makes a convincing argument that the more boldly we express ourselves, the richer the cultural tapestry we’ll weave together.
Born and raised in the Netherlands to Yugoslavian parents, Sandra rose to the top of the ad agency world, ultimately running Europe’s most prestigious ad agency, Tribal-DDB Amsterdam, before being poached by Apple to help overhaul its largest division (MarCom). Finding Apple an intriguing culture fit for empowered women, she left along with several of her favorite female powerhouses to launch humanoid.

LORI WOODLEY is the founder of ALL IT TAKES, a non-profit that equips youth and educators with essential emotional intelligence skills to successfully navigate their lives and support their communities. Working alongside JUSTINE FISCHER (Outreach & Engagement Manager) and the rest of her team, they teach young people at critical life stages to practice empathy, compassion, initiative, responsibility, and purpose in order to create sustainable, positive outcomes.
In this episode, we talk with Lori and Justine about their mission and methods at All it Takes, as well as their brand-spanking-new film series “A Trusted Space: Meeting the Moment. ” This six-part docu-training series, accompanied by resources and training guides, aims to address the exhaustion, behavioral challenges and academic decline happening in the education system in order to turn this moment of crisis into an opportunity to foster resilience and healing in the lives of students.
The work Lori and Justine are doing isn’t just (ahem) academic. It applies in the real world in real time. Right here and right now. In fact, it can be applied immediately to the kids and students in your life and with life-changing results. This is practical education for teachers, parents, and students alike. Please please please spread the word to anyone you know with children who need a little extra love and support.
Take a listen and keep an ear out for FOUR super nice challenges in this episode. One of ’em will earn you some free swag. 🙂

Logan Grimé, creator of VIB3 Machine and cofounder of Midi Matilda, discusses his idea of using music to unify humanity. He believes that songs, and specifically melodies, connect people like nothing else in the universe. To create more timeless songs and build a community around people excited about the same idea, Grimé has been sharing the process of writing songs publicly and even plans to open-source the production of those songs to as many people as possible. His vision is to create songs that can be interpreted in real-time, and through the community of people creating their own versions of the song, an interactive music format can be created. Logan believes that listening to songs in the future will be interactive, with AI helping create songs and voices in new ways that add, not overtake, to the whole of music. He coined the term ‘underlick’, a standalone melody that works beneath the singer’s voice as the song progresses, as a way to help explain the underpinnings to his philosophy of song structure. He believes that the ability to create melodies is fundamental to being human, and encourages everyone to explore their innate musical ability.

Here it is: The world’s first podcast interview with Google’s whip-smart BARD ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Just like with any other guest on our show, we reached out to ask if the guest had interest in appearing on Nice Work! BARD got back to us immediately with a resounding YES! And so, with very little scheduling difficulties or pre-show banter, we had a great conversation with an impeccably polite, if a bit verbose and repetitive “artificial intelligence”.
> Artificial Intelligence. We talk about this a lot. l

> Climate change
> Gun control
> The libido effect
> All the jobs you’re going to lose

Okay, we said we’d be done at 100 episodes. What we meant was that Season #1 would be done. Now it’s Season #2 and this is the first episode. Things will be very different in Season 2, kind of like how in that one season of The Office they changed offices and stuff. Or did they? Dunno, as we haven’t seen a single episode of that show. Or Seinfeld. Or Friends. Or Everybody Loves Raymond. And haven’t seen Titanic. And can’t name a single Beyonce song. And yet we exist. So does Mattie.
> The horrors of AirBnB
> A kids book about tumbleweeds and sibling angst
> Bears and copy editors who do too much cocaine (so gross)
> The Mexican President
> Racists
> Tiny book libraries for tiny humans
> The future of bespoke Afropunk ballpoints

Yep, this is it. Or at least we thought it might be. We planned for 100 episodes, we committed to 100 episodes, and we’ve cut 100 damned good episodes. Well, at least 8 of them were damned good….the rest ran the gamut from terrible to passably decent. But every single one featured a fantastic guest well worth your attention.
So what’s next? Dunno. SOMETHING, that’s for sure. Probably salons. Time to get people connected in the real world again. Enough podcasts. Enough social media. Here’s to getting dirty in the flesh. Dirty minds. Dirty ideas. We’re going to need to filthy if we plan to clean up the muck of our shared world. 🙂
What’s really next? Another season at some point. But done differently. A new approach. Wait and see.
