His two great grand daughters shared the home now and Victoria was killed in the robbery and Julia Bancroft badly beaten. Just after Nick Carter read of the crime in the morning newspaper he receives a call from Arthur Haskell an old friend of his father’s who owns the Haskell Bookstore that deals in rare books and old manuscripts. It seems like more than a coincidence that he should call to see him now. Then when Nick and Patsy call at Haskell’s store that night, before Haskell can tell them what he wanted to see them about somebody shoots through the window and Haskell is killed.
