Laura Hillenbrand brought to life one of the great survivor tales of World War II about Louis Zamperini missing in action in the Pacific theater. In Unbroken, a dirt poor Italian immigrant runs his way from the LA Colosseum to the 1936 Berlin Olympics and as far as Hitlers luxury box. Louis lined up with his fellow country men to fly the experimental machinery of the day. The B-24, a.k.a. the flying coffin, would have Louis lost at sea in the equatorial Pacific where Amelia Aerhart disappeared just six years earlier. 48 days lost at sea, stabbing away sharks while floating 2000 miles into enemy territory is only the beginning of his odyssey of survival.
