In 2017, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) report survey found that only 24% of LGBTQ youth said they can “definitely” be themselves as an LGBTQ person at home. Studies have shown the positive health outcomes for LGBTQ youth whose families are supportive and accepting — which include great self-esteem and resilience, and a lower risk of depression, hopelessness, and substance abuse.
We are talking about what families can do to create supportive environments for LGBTQI+ people whether it’s coming out to their parents or introducing a partner to the family. The most important thing you can give your kids is unconditional love and support.
