Travellers who want to avoid harsh quarantine requirements imposed by some countries are now planning stopovers in destinations with low Covid-19 restrictions.
While this allows them to see more than one destination, travel experts warn that travellers should familiarise themselves with the risks, especially with the uncertainty of global travel restrictions due to Covid-19.

The last year has made the rights enshrined in South Africa's Bill of Rights more relevant than ever before. Prior to Covid-19, many of us simply took the right to freedom of movement for granted, as well as the right to freedom of trade, to healthcare and to education. Although these rights are experienced to greater and lesser degrees by South Africa's citizens, we never imagined that a pandemic would force their realisation to be temporarily suspended for all.
The one-year anniversary of the pandemic this past month, together with Human Rights Day, has forced me to think of the ways in which education has evolved from a human rights perspective over the course of my career. Here’s what I have learnt in the past 25 years.

A recent Supreme Court of Appeal judgment has provided new guidance on COIDA cover and when employers may be exposed to direct claims for damages by employees.

Ordinarily, employees injured on duty would be able to lodge a claim with the Compensation Fund under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act 13 of 1993 (COIDA). However, given the unique circumstances in this matter, the SCA held that COIDA did not apply and that instead the employee could claim damages from the employer directly.

The Centre for Development and Enterprise predicted that South Africa will need to have 456 000 teachers by 2025 to offer quality education. Furthermore, according to the Department of Basic Education, South Africa’s public education system the country needs more teachers, with the Gauteng department citing a loss of teachers during this time.
