Following the burning of Soshanguve Secondary School in Tshwane, MEC for Education in the province has condemned this act of criminality and pleaded with the security cluster to protect schools.

General Secretary of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu), Mugwena Maluleke to react to these criminal acts which are targeted at education facilities. We will also speak to him about how the union is supporting teachers during the lockdown so that they can in turn support learners. You may recall that last night we received a voice note from a teacher who said that she uses Whatsapp to send lessons to her learners but that some of her students cannot participate because they cannot afford to buy data.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to place Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams on special leave for two months, one month of which will be unpaid. This follows the revelation on social media that the minister had recently visited the home of former Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister, Mduduzi Manana who hosted a lunch, contrary to the lockdown regulations. Minister Ndabeni Abrahams has since apologised.

The Economic Freedom Fighter have laid criminal charges against Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams for breaching lockdown regulations.
