Black Economic Empowerment is a policy of the South African government which aims to facilitate broader participation in the economy by black people. A form of affirmative action, it is intended especially to redress the inequalities created by apartheid. The BBBEE AAct defines black person as "Afeicans, Coloureds and Indians" 

The African Union has been made a permanent member of the G20. The African Union now has the same status as the European Union, previously the only regional bloc with a full membership. Its previous designation was invited international organisation. The G20 includes 19 of the world's wealthiest nations  and the European Union represents two thirds of the world's population.

Oliver Dickson was in conversation with Kwezi Mngqibisa is a Research Associate at the Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadership at the University of Johannesburg. Previously he worked at the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes. He was part of conflict management  efforts in Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Somalia etc working on mediation and peace processes.

The ANC is turning to the Constitutional Court in a final bid to appeal a judgment ordering it to release its cadre deployment records to the Democratic Alliance.

The party faced a deadline to hand over the records.

This follows the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissing with costs the ANC's application for leave to appeal a previous ruling, saying there are no reasonable prospects of success.

According to the Health Justice initiative Global pharmaceutical giants bullied South Africa into securing COVID-19 vaccines worth three-hundred-and-seventy-four million US dollars/ This was during the height of the pandemic. 
South Africa secret Covid19 vaccine deals which were secret,  were released by the Health Justice Initiative (HJI) following a high court ruling in August ordering the department of health to provide HJI with the contracts it signed with pharmaceutical manufacturers including Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson.

Olivr Dickson spoke to Professor Alex van den Heever -Public health expert in order to understand the inner working of negotiating such contracts. If this is tru, why, would SA, be singled out in this 'bullying'. Could it be that SA could not negotiate for their part? What TS and Cs inform such processes? Are no ethics relating which 'Big Pharma' is to abide by?

We get to know Elisabeth Valerio The founding President of the United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) a political party formed in May 2021. 

She is the only woman of the 10 candidates on the 2023 Presidential ballot in Zimbabwe. Prior to entering politics, Elisabeth began her career as a biochemist working in the biotechnology industry. We reflect on her party's perfomance at Zimbabwe's recent election, her reaction to President's Mnagnagwa's presidency and leadership.  

We also touch on the culture of Zimbabwe and in particular how it then impacts on the political landscape of the country, which has been described as 'Patriarchal' -How does this impact the participation of women in the politics of Zimbabwe?
